BEDFORD COUNTY, Pennsylvania — A Cessna Citation business jet carrying two people crashed while departing Bedford County Airport on Wednesday morning, October 7, prompting an emergency response and a Federal Aviation Administration investigation.

The aircraft crashed at approximately 10:45 a.m. local time, according to the FAA’s preliminary statement. The agency confirmed that two people were aboard but did not identify them or disclose their medical conditions.

The crash was nonfatal, according to Daily Voice, citing police confirmation to WTAJ. Details about possible injuries were not immediately available.

That distinction remains important as images of the wreckage circulate: a nonfatal crash does not necessarily mean the occupants escaped without injuries.

Maryland-bound jet damaged during departure

Local reporting identified the aircraft as N600AL, a Cessna Citation scheduled to fly to Martin State Airport in Middle River, Maryland, outside Baltimore. Daily Voice identified the jet as a Citation CJ1, citing FlightAware.

FAA registration records for N600AL list a 2000 Cessna 525, serial number 525-0383, registered to Shobers Equipment LLC in Bedford, Pennsylvania. It is a multi-engine aircraft powered by turbofan engines.

The registration establishes the listed owner, but does not identify the people aboard or who was operating the flight.

WJAC reported that scene video showed heavy damage to the aircraft and damage to a fence on airport property. Emergency dispatchers said crews from Bedford, Everett and Alum Bank responded, along with Bedford Ambulance.

The FAA’s description places the crash during departure. It does not establish whether the jet had become airborne before the accident or describe the sequence that led to the damage.

FAA investigation to examine what happened

The FAA said it will investigate. No cause has been announced, and the agency’s initial statement did not announce National Transportation Safety Board involvement in this crash.

The Bedford County Airport Authority describes the facility as a public airport that opened in 1994, approximately five miles north of Bedford borough. Its facilities serve private aircraft and business aviation.

Federal aviation investigators are separately examining the Delta and Air Canada aircraft collision at Los Angeles International Airport, which occurred a day earlier during ground movements.

In Bedford, the key unanswered questions remain what happened during the departure and whether either occupant required medical treatment. Further official updates are awaited.
