Bayern confirm collapse and temporary coaching arrangements

In a club statement, also carried by talkSPORT, Bayern said:

“Vincent Kompany had to receive medical attention on Friday after collapsing during a training session of FC Bayern’s second team. The first-team head coach had been watching the second team’s training session. Kompany is undergoing thorough examinations in hospital and will remain under medical supervision. Until further notice, his coaching staff will take charge of training and matchday operations.”

Bayern’s board member for sport, Max Eberl, said Kompany would be given all the time and support he needed to recover.

“Vincent Kompany’s health is our top priority. We at FC Bayern will do everything we can to ensure that he recovers quickly. Vinnie will receive all the necessary medical care and support, as well as all the time he needs. His coaching staff, whom we trust completely, will take over his duties. All of us at FC Bayern wish Vinnie a speedy recovery.”

The announcement comes ahead of Bayern’s Bundesliga match against SC Freiburg on Sunday, October 25. Under the arrangements announced by the club, Kompany’s coaching staff will oversee preparations and matchday duties until further notice.

Bayern did not disclose the cause of the collapse or give a timetable for his return. Kompany had experienced a viral illness earlier in the week, but the statement did not establish whether that illness caused Friday’s incident.
