âConfrontingâ Scene Described by First Responders
Local resident and former Country Fire Service (CFS) captain Michael Bell, who lives in nearby Forreston, arrived at the scene shortly after the crash to assist.
He described the aftermath as âfairly confronting,â with emergency crews surrounding the wreckage and working intensely to rescue the trapped passengers.
âThe truck is sort of crossed up at the intersection and the black sedan is off to the left-hand side, off the road, and emergency services are everywhere,â Mr Bell said.
His account underscores the intensity of the situation and the scale of the emergency response.
Roads Closed as Police Launch Investigation
Authorities quickly shut down multiple roads around the crash site to allow emergency teams to operate safely and to preserve the scene for investigation.
Motorists were advised to avoid the area, with traffic disruptions reported across parts of the Adelaide Hills as diversions were put in place.
Police have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the crash, but Major Crash investigators are expected to examine all contributing factors, including road conditions, speed, and driver behavior.
Intersection Has âNotorious Historyâ of Accidents
Residents familiar with the area say the intersection where the crash occurred has long been known for serious accidents.
Mr Bell noted that the location has a ânotorious history of bad accidents,â raising fresh concerns about safety at the junction.
The latest incident is likely to renew calls for improved road safety measures, such as better signage, speed controls, or potential infrastructure changes.
Experts often highlight rural intersections as high-risk zones due to limited visibility, higher speeds, and inconsistent driver awareness.

Second Crash South of Adelaide Leaves Man Seriously Injured
In a separate incident on the same day, another serious crash occurred at Hindmarsh Valley, south of Adelaide, adding to an already alarming afternoon on South Australian roads.
Police said the second crash happened at around 2:15 PM at the intersection of Victor Harbor Road and Hindmarsh Tiers Road.

Police Urge Witnesses to Come Forward
Authorities are appealing to anyone who witnessed either crash, or who may have dashcam footage, to assist with ongoing investigations.
Police specifically asked individuals who have not yet spoken with officers to contact Crime Stoppers South Australia.
Information from witnesses could be critical in determining the sequence of events leading up to both incidents.
Easter Long Weekend Warning for Drivers
With the Easter long weekend approaching, locals and authorities are urging drivers to exercise extra caution on the roads.
Increased traffic, long-distance travel, and driver fatigue often contribute to a spike in serious accidents during holiday periods.
Local resident Jim Rathjen stressed the importance of staying alert behind the wheel.
âPeople want to be very aware of driving conditions, road conditions, stop signs, speed, and inattention,â he said.
Authorities are reminding motorists to follow speed limits, obey traffic signs, and remain focused at all times to prevent further tragedies.
Outlook: Safety Concerns Grow After Back-to-Back Crashes
The two serious crashes within hours of each other have raised fresh concerns about road safety across South Australia.
As investigations continue, attention is likely to turn toward improving safety measures at high-risk intersections and reinforcing public awareness campaigns.
For now, the focus remains on the recovery of those critically injured and ensuring that drivers take the warnings seriously â especially during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
