Frontier Developments has officially revealed Planet Zoo 2, confirming the long-awaited sequel will launch on October 13, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Nearly seven years after the original Planet Zoo released, the studio is introducing some of the franchiseâs most requested features, including fully customizable aquariums and aviaries with flying animals.
The announcement quickly gained attention online after the reveal trailer showcased aquatic habitats, walk-through aviaries, upgraded animal behavior systems, and larger conservation-focused gameplay. Fans of the original game have been asking for underwater species and flying birds for years, making this one of Frontierâs biggest simulation reveals in recent memory.
Planet Zoo 2 announced on X:
âGrab your Keeper outfit, brush off your wellies and get ready to âBuild A Wilder World!ââ
Planet Zoo 2 is coming to PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 on October 13, with flying birds, fully-aquatic species and brand-new Wildlife Reserves.
Aquariums and flying animals headline Planet Zoo 2
For the first time in the series, players will be able to create large-scale aquarium habitats featuring species such as black-tipped reef sharks, hawksbill turtles, and colorful shoals of fish. Frontier says these aquariums are fully editable habitats rather than simple decorative tanks. Players can customize scenery, filtration systems, habitat layouts, and staff access areas that require scuba gear and airlocks for maintenance.
Flying species are also arriving through the gameâs new aviary system. Confirmed birds include the vibrant toco toucan and secretary bird. Aviaries can be built using support structures and large canopy systems, while certain habitats will allow zoo guests to walk directly through the enclosure for a more immersive experience.
According to the official announcement from Frontier Developments, Planet Zoo 2 represents a âgenerational leap forwardâ in animation quality and animal behavior. The studio highlighted improvements to fur, feather, and scale rendering technology, along with more realistic environmental interactions and movement systems.

Conservation becomes a central gameplay system
Beyond traditional zoo management, Planet Zoo 2 is expanding its conservation systems significantly. Players will now be able to restore damaged habitats around the world, manage wildlife reserves, and release animals back into natural ecosystems. Frontier says the sequel is designed to focus more heavily on conservation and ecosystem balance rather than only building profitable zoos.
At the same time, the core management gameplay remains central to the experience. Players will still need to balance guest satisfaction, animal welfare, staff morale, training, and financial management while growing their zoo successfully.
The Standard Edition of Planet Zoo 2 is priced at $49.99 / ÂŁ39.99 / âŹ49.99. A Deluxe Edition will also launch at $64.99 / ÂŁ54.99 / âŹ64.99 and includes six additional animal species, plus exclusive decorative animal signs.
The reveal has already pushed Planet Zoo 2 into trending gaming discussions, especially as 2026 continues shaping up to be a major year for simulation and management titles. Swikblog recently covered other major upcoming releases in its report on Sonyâs PlayStation State of Play June 2026 showcase, where several anticipated games were highlighted ahead of launch.
With aquariums, aviaries, enhanced animal AI, conservation projects, and upgraded visuals, Planet Zoo 2 appears positioned to become Frontierâs most ambitious zoo simulation game yet.
