An urgent search for a missing teenager in Lexington ended with relief late Wednesday after authorities confirmed the teen at the center of a statewide alert had been found safe.
Kentucky State Police initially issued an IAN Alert for 17-year-old Jahmari Deshaun Carter after he was reported missing earlier in the day. Officials later confirmed that the alert was canceled once Carter was safely located and reunited with his family.
Teen reported missing from Lexington neighborhood
Authorities said Carter was last seen in the 400 block of Conley Street in Lexington. Early reports indicated he was spotted at approximately 9:53 a.m. Wednesday morning, while later police updates noted he had last been seen around 10 a.m.
Police described Carter as 5 feet 7 inches tall with brown hair and brown eyes. Officials also stated that the teenager is autistic, which increased concerns about his safety once he was reported missing.
IAN Alert issued due to safety concerns
The case triggered the use of Kentucky’s IAN Alert system, which is activated when a child under 18 with autism or certain mental health conditions goes missing and may be in danger. The alerts are designed to rapidly inform the public and law enforcement agencies to help locate vulnerable individuals as quickly as possible.
During the search, authorities asked anyone with information about Carter’s whereabouts to contact 911 or local law enforcement. Additional details about alert systems and public safety notifications can be found through the Kentucky State Police.
Alert canceled after safe recovery
Later updates from law enforcement confirmed that Carter had been found safe. Officials said the IAN Alert was officially canceled once his location was confirmed.
While authorities did not release details about where he was found, they confirmed the teenager is now being reunited with his family.
The swift resolution brought relief to the Lexington community, where residents had been following updates closely after the alert was issued earlier in the day.
