Galanz Refrigerator Recall 2026: 121,680 Units Recalled After 34 Fires and One Reported Death’

Galanz Americas is recalling approximately 121,680 retro-style refrigerators in the United States after federal regulators received 34 reports of fires involving the appliances. One fire resulted in a reported death, according to information provided by a local fire department.

The July 30, 2026 recall addresses internal electrical components that can short-circuit and ignite. Owners of affected refrigerators should unplug them immediately and stop using them until a qualified technician completes a free in-home repair.

Why are the refrigerators being recalled?

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission said the electrical fault creates a risk of fire, serious burns and death. An affected refrigerator may appear to work normally before a failure, so consumers should not wait for smoke, sparks, unusual smells or visible damage before acting.

The CPSC has received 34 fire reports, including one involving a fatality. The public recall notice does not identify the person who died or disclose where the fatal fire occurred.

Which Galanz models are recalled?

The recall covers these five model numbers:

  • BCD-215V-62H
  • GLR76TRDER
  • GLR76TBKER
  • GLR76TBEER
  • GLR76TWEER

The refrigerator must also have a date code from December 2018 through December 2020. Date codes use YYYYMM format, meaning the affected range runs from 201812 through 202012. Both the model number and date code must match.

Where to find the model and date code

The Galanz name, model number and date code appear on a white label on the upper-left corner at the back of the refrigerator.

Owners should unplug the appliance before inspecting the label. Because refrigerators are heavy, consumers should seek assistance if the label cannot be viewed safely. Renters should notify their landlord or property manager if an appliance supplied with their home is affected.

What do the recalled refrigerators look like?

The 7.6-cubic-foot Galanz Retro Refrigerators were sold in black, blue, red and white. They measure approximately 58 inches high, 24 inches deep and 21 inches wide.

Models have either a left-hand-opening or right-hand-opening main door with a handle. The refrigerator contains three adjustable glass shelves and one drawer. The top freezer has a separate door and drawer, while “Galanz” is printed on the front.

Where were they sold?

The refrigerators were sold at Home Depot stores nationwide and through Amazon.com from January 2019 through September 2022 for approximately $330 to $520.

Zhongshan Galanz manufactured them in China. Home Depot and New Jersey-based Galanz Americas imported the affected units.

Second-hand owners should also check their appliances. The recall applies when the model and date code match, regardless of who currently owns the refrigerator or whether an original receipt is available.

The action follows other fire-related safety warnings, including the Frigidaire oven recall over a burn hazard and the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid electrical fire-risk recall. Such notices show why consumers should check official product identifiers rather than relying on appearance alone.

What should affected owners do?

Consumers should unplug the refrigerator, stop using both compartments and contact Galanz to arrange a free in-home repair by a qualified technician. They should not reconnect or attempt to repair the appliance themselves.

The announced remedy is a repair. The recall notice does not offer an automatic refund, replacement refrigerator or store exchange.

How to contact Galanz

Call Galanz Americas at 888-462-0579 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday. Consumers can also email customerservice@galanzamericas.com or visit GalanzRetroFridgeRecall.expertinquiry.com.

Model photographs, label examples and complete instructions are available in the official CPSC recall notice. The reference is Recall No. 26-649.

How to protect food after unplugging it

Move food to another refrigerator or an ice-filled cooler maintained at 40°F (4°C) or below. Keep the appliance doors closed until the food can be transferred.

An unopened refrigerator generally keeps food cold for about four hours. A full freezer can remain cold for approximately 48 hours, while a half-full freezer may remain cold for 24 hours. Perishable food may need to be discarded after four hours without refrigeration, and food should never be tasted to determine whether it is safe.

Federal law prohibits businesses and individuals from selling or distributing recalled products. Owners should retain their recall registration and repair records, particularly if the refrigerator is later transferred to someone else.
