ATLANTA — Atlanta’s free Movies in the Park series returns in August 2026 with eight outdoor screenings scheduled across city parks on Friday and Saturday nights.

Organized by the City of Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation, the program begins Friday, August 7, and continues through Saturday, August 29. Each screening will feature a different film and location, taking the series into several neighborhoods instead of keeping it at one central venue.

Admission is free. Visitors may bring blankets, portable chairs and treats while watching animated favorites, recent releases and two adult-only selections. Movies begin at dusk, so arriving early should make it easier to find a comfortable viewing spot.

The screenings add another community-focused event to Atlanta’s active 2026 calendar. Earlier celebrations included Atlanta 404 Day’s citywide program of music, food, parades and neighborhood events, which similarly brought entertainment into shared public spaces.

Atlanta Movies in the Park 2026 schedule

The announced lineup covers every Friday and Saturday during the final four weekends of August:

• Saturday, August 8: GOAT at Knight Park
• Friday, August 14: The Incredibles at Grant Park
• Saturday, August 15: The Lego Batman Movie at Kathryn Johnston Park
• Friday, August 21: The Magnificent 7 at Center Hill Park — ages 18 and older
• Saturday, August 22: Zootopia 2 at Benteen Park
• Friday, August 28: The Book of Clarence at West Manor Park — ages 18 and older
• Saturday, August 29: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at Atlanta Memorial Park

Families should review the film title and age guidance before travelling. The August 21 and August 28 screenings are restricted to adults aged 18 and older, while several Saturday selections are better suited to a broad family audience.

Because the venue changes for every showing, visitors should confirm both the date and park. Going to the previous weekend’s location could mean missing the event entirely.

What visitors should bring

The outdoor events do not use assigned theater seating. Guests will need to create their own viewing area with a blanket or lawn chair.

Water, light snacks, insect repellent and weather-appropriate clothing may make the evening more comfortable. A small flashlight can help when leaving after dark, particularly at parks with longer walking routes.

Parking and entrance arrangements will differ by location. Checking the route in advance is useful for anyone visiting an unfamiliar neighborhood park.

Atlanta has already welcomed large crowds for major events this year, including activity connected to World Cup matches and visitor plans around Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Movies in the Park operates on a smaller scale, but early arrival remains sensible for popular screenings.

Rain cancellations will move to October

Every movie night is weather dependent. Rain, thunderstorms or other unsafe outdoor conditions could force organizers to cancel a screening.

If a film is rained out, it will be rescheduled for another weekend in October. Attendees should not assume that a cancelled Friday movie will automatically take place the following Saturday.

Why the rotating park format matters

Moving the screenings between eight parks gives the series a wider neighborhood reach than holding every event at one location. Residents can choose a particular film or attend the showing closest to home.

The format encourages more evening use of Atlanta’s public green spaces while providing an affordable weekend activity. Visitors remain responsible for transportation, seating and refreshments, but there is no admission charge.

The series opens with Michael at C.T. Martin Recreation Center on August 7 and ends with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at Atlanta Memorial Park on August 29, unless weather or an operational change affects the published lineup.
