Dallas Cowboys defensive end Donovan Ezeiruaku was arrested late Sunday night in North Texas on a reckless driving charge, according to jail records cited by the Dallas Morning News.
The 22-year-old rookie was taken into custody shortly before midnight after a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper observed what was described as “reckless” driving on the southbound lanes of the Dallas North Tollway in Plano. Authorities initiated a traffic stop to investigate the incident, which ultimately led to Ezeiruaku’s arrest.
Ezeiruaku posted a $500 bond and was released shortly afterward. As of Tuesday morning, no further details regarding the alleged driving behavior have been made public.
The Dallas Cowboys acknowledged the arrest on Monday night, confirming they were aware of the situation but offering no additional comment. Collin County, where the arrest occurred, is located just northeast of Dallas.
The incident comes at the end of a turbulent rookie season for Ezeiruaku. The former Boston College standout recorded 40 total tackles and two sacks during his first year in the NFL, carving out a rotational role along Dallas’ defensive front.
However, his season ended on a sour note. In the Cowboys’ regular-season finale, Ezeiruaku was ejected after a second-half scuffle in which he removed the helmet of Greg Van Roten of the New York Giants. The altercation effectively closed the book on his rookie campaign.
At this stage, it remains unclear whether the reckless driving charge will result in league discipline. The NFL typically reviews off-field incidents on a case-by-case basis under its personal conduct policy.
Ezeiruaku has not yet commented publicly on the arrest.
