Every year 6th of August is marked to celebrate the Hiroshima Day which commemorated the anniversary of the atomic bomb attack on Hiroshima, Japan by the US during the World War II. This year 2020 is marks the 75th anniversary of the Hiroshima atomic attack.
On the anniversary of Hiroshima’s atomic bombing the Hiroshima Peace Memorial ceremony takes place at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park each year on 6 August, around 50,000 local people, tourists and ambassadors and dignitaries from about 70 countries assemble here to comfort the souls and hope for permanent world peace of those assassinated by the atom bomb.
The attack ended the World War II. The day is celebrated with an aim to foster peace politics against the war. It is a day to raise awareness about the threat of nuclear weapons and the risk of nuclear power.
History of Hiroshima Bombing Attack
On 6 August 1945, a modified B-29 bomber loaded with more than 9,000-pound uranium-235 bomb that dropped the world’s first deployed atomic bomb over Hiroshima, Japan. This happened in 1939-1945 during the Second World War and 90% of the city has been devastated by the explosion caused by the bombing. About 70,000 people died immediately as the result of radiation exposure directly and hundreds of thousands later. At the end of the year 90,000 to 1,60000 people died due to the effect of radiation.
After 3 days of Hiroshima attack on 9th August 1945, A second B-29 dropped another A-bomb on Nagasaki in which approx. 40,000 people died from the second bombing. After that Japan’s Emperor Hirohito announced on 15th august the unconditional surrender of Japan in second World War citing the crippling impact of new and cruelest bomb ever.
After two years of attack, a Hiroshima Peace Memorial was built to serve the memory of bombing. Now the Hiroshima Peace Memorial comes under UNESCO World Heritage Site. After the war, and reconstruction Hiroshima is the largest town in the area of Chúgoku, western Honshu, and Japan’s largest island.
How Hiroshima Day is observed?
Hiroshima City holds the Peace Anniversary Ceremony on Hiroshima Day to console the victims of the atomic bombings. On this a ceremony is conducted at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial where on that day people pray for the sustainable people in the world. On the ceremony Deceased families and other groups from around the world take part in the event. On 1947, the first ceremony Hiroshima Day took place at Hiroshima peace memorial.
Every year on 6 August from 1947, there is a Peace Anniversary of Hiroshima. The ceremony will also include special talks with the Prime Minister of Japan’s appeals for peace. Every year at 8:15a.m. on the morning of 6 August, the exact time that the nuclear bomb has dropped.
