On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will go to Mauritius for a two-day state visit as the chief guest to attend the island nation’s 57th national day celebrations. India and Mauritius are expected to sign a number of agreements to strengthen their security and commercial ties when the prime minister is there.
Mauritian Foreign Minister Dhananjay Ramful defined Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Mauritius on March 11th and 12th, 2025, as a “special moment,” underscoring the robust relationship between the two countries that has existed since 1948. The visit is intended to improve collaborations between Mauritius and India in a number of areas, with a special emphasis on improving maritime security and defence.
Agenda of two Day visit
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced at a press conference on Saturday that during the Prime Minister’s visit, the Indian Navy and Mauritius authorities will sign a technical agreement on sharing information on white shipping.
Additionally, the two parties will sign a number of agreements pertaining to bilateral commerce, capacity building, combating cross-border financial crimes, and supporting small and medium-sized businesses.
Prime Minister Modi will meet with the President and Prime Minister of Mauritius, interact with top officials and political leaders, meet the Indian diaspora, launch initiatives funded by India—the Civil Service College and Area Health Centre—severally Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed.
During Modi’s visit, the Financial Crime Commission of Mauritius and India’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on fighting financial crimes. The agreement aims to improve technical support and intelligence collaboration in the fight against money laundering and related crimes.
This visit seeks to enhance the existing India-Mauritius relationship, which is founded on a common historical and cultural background, while also reinforcing collaboration under India’s Vision SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region). It highlights the persistent connection and dedication to improving bilateral relations across multiple sectors.
