World Children Day is celebrated every year on 20th November to promote international togetherness, improving the children’s welfare and to spread awareness among the children. It is an opportunity for all of us to promote and celebrate children’s right, to translate our dialogue into actions which can help to build a better world for the children.
Why 20th November is chosen for the Universal Children’s Day?
The Universal Children’s Day date is important as it the date when the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959. One more resolution is also adopted in 1989 on this date as the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
2022 Theme: Inclusion, for Every Child
UNICEF is inviting partners and supporters to spread a message of inclusion and equality for all children in celebration of World Children’s Day in 2022.
For the first time, young people are speaking out about the issues that matter most to their generation. It is more important than ever that we listen to them as the world recovers from the pandemic.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen how inequality affects the rights of all children. Children and young people are speaking out on a wide range of issues, including climate change, education, mental health, and the elimination of racism and discrimination.
The COVID-19 crisis has contributed to a child rights crisis. For children, the costs of the pandemic are immediate and, if unaddressed, will last a lifetime. It’s time to come together for generations to reimagine the sort of world we want to create.
On this World Children’s Day children are demanding their right, it is one of the biggest celebrations of children’s day rights as UNICEF is supporting children to lift their voices and claim their rights. It is a chance for every girl and boy to take lead, demand for their rights and also they share the vision for a better life.
According to the UNICEF flagship report, In this 2019 edition of The State of the World’s Children (SOWC) examines the issues of Children, food, and nutrition which provides a good perspective on a rapidly evolving challenge. In the past two decades, one-third of the children under the age group of 5 are malnourished or overweight while two-third of the children are facing the risk of malnutrition and hunger because of their bad diet. This report provides new data and also analyze about malnutrition in the 21st century. It also recommends children’s rights to the food system.
History
On the 14th of December 1954, the UN General Assembly recommended that all countries institute will observe Universal Children’s Day as a day of fraternity and understanding between children. It is also recommended that this day will also be a day of activity to promote the ideals and objectives of the Charter and the welfare of the Children of the world.
The most ratified Human Right Treaty “The Convention” take out a number of children rights including the right to life, right to family life, health, education and play as well as protected from violence.
Every county celebrates World Children’s Day on different dates like in Australia Children’s Day is celebrated on the fourth Wednesday of October. New Zealand, Canada, and the United Kingdom celebrate on November 20th. In India World Children’s Day is celebrated on the 14th of November on the birth of India’s first Prime Minister and children’s favorite Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru
