After the initial strikes on May 7, 2025, India conducted further precision attacks targeting air defense systems in Pakistan, including the neutralization of an air defense system in Lahore .
As per the Ministry of Defence on 7th May Indian Army has perferomed major drone strike at Air defence radar in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and many areas of Pakistan.
Pakistan has engaged in artillery shelling across the Line of Control (LoC), affecting areas such as Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, and Akhnoor in Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Army has responded proportionately to these unprovoked attacks .
Due to the ongoing conflict has led to civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure on both sides. Notably, a gurdwara in Poonch was damaged due to shelling, and several civilians have lost their lives in the cross-border exchanges .
On May 6, 2025, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor, a series of precision missile strikes targeting nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). This decisive action was undertaken in direct retaliation for the Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22, 2025, which tragically claimed the lives of 26 civilians, including 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen .
Why the mission name is Operation Sindoor?
The name “Operation Sindoor” carries symbolic significance, referencing the Hindu symbol of marriage, and was seen as a response to the targeting of Hindu women in the Pahalgam attack. The operation’s briefing was notably led by Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, a Muslim, and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, a Hindu, showcasing India’s unity against terrorism .
