On May 6, 2025, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor, a series of precision missile strikes targeting nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). This decisive action was undertaken in direct retaliation for the Pahalgam terrorist attack on April 22, 2025, which tragically claimed the lives of 26 civilians, including 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen .

Objectives and Execution

The primary objective of Operation Sindoor was to dismantle terrorist infrastructure responsible for orchestrating attacks against India. The Indian government emphasized that the strikes were “focused, measured, and non-escalatory,” deliberately avoiding Pakistani military installations to prevent further escalation. The targeted sites were believed to be linked to groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba, operating from areas such as Kotli, Muzaffarabad, and Bahawalpur.

Pakistan confirmed the missile strikes and condemned them as a “heinous provocation,” vowing to respond at a time of its choosing. The situation has heightened tensions between the two nations, with the international community closely monitoring developments.
