World Meteorological Day is the United Nations annual event, celebrated every year on March 23 to remember the establishment of the World Meteorological Organization on 23rd March 1920.
Every year this organization announces a slogan for World Meteorological Day, which is celebrated by all the countries. The day also highlights the contributions of the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services made for the safety and well-being of the society.
World Meteorological Day 2025 Theme
This year, the theme of World Meteorological Day 2025 is Closing the Early Warning Gap Together
The WMO has recently confirmed that 2024 stands as the hottest year on record. Our environment is undergoing changes that are leading to increasingly extreme weather events. There is a notable increase in rapidly intensifying tropical cyclones, devastating rainfall, storm surges, flooding, deadly droughts, and wildfires. Rising sea levels are putting densely populated coastal regions at risk of inundation and the effects of ocean waves. The impact of these events on society lingers well beyond the time when the headlines disappear.
Weather forecasts are no longer adequate. Impact-based predictions that tell people what the weather will do are critical for saving lives and livelihoods. Despite this, one out of every three people is still not effectively protected by early warning systems.
Who is the World Meteorological Organization?
